Our role at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is critical,
compelling, and wider than most people realize. To be sure, our
accountabilities encompass establishing standards and regulations,
issuing licenses to nuclear facilities and to users of nuclear
materials, and more. But our impact is also felt in medicine programs at
hospitals...in academic research facilities at universities...in various
industrial settings - everywhere in the U.S. where nuclear materials are
studied, implemented, and applied to help meet the needs of the world
and make it a better place.

General Responsibilities for Each Position:

of evaluating technical, regulatory, and programmatic issues related to
nuclear waste disposal facilities. Develops and conducts independent,
state-of-the-art technical investigations to evaluate geological
processes that may affect the performance of geologic and engineered
systems. Abstracts complex geological processes into numerical models
and conducts quantitative risk assessments. Understands a broad range of
geological sciences.

Assists in developing license application review methods, performs
license application reviews, and provides expert responses at public
meetings and expert testimony at depositions and during litigation.
Provides input to development of regulations and regulatory guidance on
geologic hazards, methods for review and analysis of regulatory issues,
and related management issues. Directs and reviews contractor work in
the geosciences and its application to quantitative risk assessments. Helps develop budget projections and assist in program planning. Mentors
junior staff members."

Open Period: 12/08/2006 - 01/26/2007

interviews. Please stop by Exhibit Booth #922 or the AGU Employment
Center for additional information.
Because of security clearance requirements, applicants must be citizens
of the United States of America, or anticipate becoming U.S.A. citizens
prior to employment with the NRC. All positions are located at our
Rockville, MD headquarters facility.
