The Department of Earth Sciences at Montana State University invites applications for a Post Doctoral Associate in igneous petrology and volcanology. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating the origins of basaltic volcanic rocks erupted in the Pribilof Islands, Alaska. The candidate will be expected to develop geochemical models for whole-rock major and trace element, radiogenic and stable isotope, and mineral composition data for suites of related basaltic rocks, and to consider these data in the context of petrographic, field, and tectonic relationships. The candidate will also be expected to generate additional mineral composition data by electron microprobe and stable isotope data. Applications are invited from candidates with demonstrated experience in interpretation of geochemical and petrologic data, but we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in mantle and basalt geochemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to have an established publication record, including at least one first-authored paper in an international peer-reviewed journal. This position with competitive salary will be awarded for one year initially. Screening will begin on January 8, 2007, and will continue until the position is filled. To apply, send (1) a cover letter describing research experience and addressing the required and preferred qualifications stated above; (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of three professional references.
