Fall AGU Session: Flat Slab Subduction in Central Mexico

Dear Colleagues,

We encourage you to submit abstracts to the following session:
T13: Flat Slab Subduction in Central Mexico
for this Fall Meeting of AGU in San Francisco.

Session description is:

The geometry of the subducted slab beneath central Mexico varies considerably along strike of the Middle America Trench. The portion near Acapulco up to 200 km from the trench is thought to be shallow or sub-horizontal, but exhibits little if any coupling to the overriding plate. The fate of the slab beneath the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt is unknown and has led to contrasting models to explain this volcanic arc. The variation in dip is also at odds with the variation of the age and convergence rate of the subducting slab.

We solict contributions from seismology, geodynamics, geodesy, and geochemistry that bear on the understanding of this subduction zone, and adjacent zones of the Middle America Trench.
