************************************************************************ High resolution astronaut photography of recent Cleveland Volcano event ************************************************************************ From: William L. Stefanov <william.l.stefanov@xxxxxxxx> The May 23, 2006 ash plume event at Cleveland Volcano was first observed and reported to the Alaska Volcano Observatory by Flight Engineer Jeff Williams aboard the International Space Station. He also captured a series of high-resolution images of the plume shortly after initiation of the eruption that may be of interest to the community. The NASA Earth Observatory website has a feature article on one of the images (http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NewImages/images.php3?img_id=17285). The full image series (photographs ISS013-E-24182 through ISS013-E-24188)can be examined and downloaded from the NASA Gateway to Astronaut Photography website using the search tools at http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/mrf.htm. To retrieve the series, select ISS013 under "Missions", enter E for "Roll", enter 24182 for "Frame1" and 24188 for "Frame2". Also select "All digital images including those that have not yet been cataloged" under "Choose which kinds of reecords to list". The ISS crew frequently takes photographs of dynamic events such as volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, dust storms, and brush fires at a variety of spatial resolutions, sun angles, and viewing angles.
