Univ of Bristol Postdoc Position: evolution of the crust of Antarctica
***********************************************************************
From: Philip Leat <PTLE@xxxxxxxxx>

Postdoctoral position to study the evolution of the crust of
Antarctica using Hf and O isotope measurements in zircon

You will work in the Department of Earth Sciences as part of a project
to investigate the age structure, origins and evolution of the
Antarctic continent using in situ analyses of detrital and inherited
zircons. The work will dominantly involve field work in Antarctica
in December 2006-February 2007 with the British Antarctic Survey, and
in situ analyses of zircon grains of Hf isotope ratios using
multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass-spectrometry at the
University of Bristol, and of U-Pb and O isotopes by ion-microprobe
analyses at the University of Edinburgh. You will have an active
track record in isotope ratio mass-spectrometry with a proven ability
to produce manuscripts for high impact journals and skills to
undertake independent geological field work. Experience in
multi-collector inductively coupled mass-spectrometry and in situ
analysis and a good knowledge of the processes of crust generation and
evolution would be highly advantageous. You will need to be
physically capable and medically fit to work in Antarctica.

If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a
permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant
research experience. Further information can be found at
