Ok I was able to start remote-viewer manually like this: remote-viewer --debug --spice-debug
I was able to do this with both ver 7 and 9 but as far as I can tell neither did any longing.
Windows did give me it's own error message with ver 9 if this helps:

This is known issue, it is a problem in spice-gtk integration
with wasapi plugins.
