Actually this only protects the disk(s) from modification. If booting from the 
disk(s) would have other unwanted effects, e.g. network access or breaking out 
of the VM (malware), you need to configure the VM so that it won't boot from 
the disks such as

> [...] add a bootable CD/DVD to the VM and make it 
> the first boot option.
