Enabling direct access to an SSD

Hi!

I want to add an SSD to my computer, and use it as a cache for my hard disk.
This is possible, but it's a bit complicated. I'm afraid I might not be able
to boot again, after something goes wrong.

So I thought, I try it in a virtual machine first. This means that the VM needs
to get direct access to the SSD (apart from the virtual hard disk on which the
guest system runs).

Is this possible?

Cheers
Volker
