Can't you look at submitting a patch to GLib instead ? Here is the bug & patches for GLib: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692979 Since windows projects can usually depend on latest GLib builds (they ship their own copy right now), I think it makes sense to convince the maintainers to have these Windows specific helpers there.
