virt-manager grabbing control character

Is there a way to configure virt-manager to use mod4(aka windows key) to not be sent directly to a guest VM, similar to how control + alt is used to escape from the guest?

This issue stems from using a tiling window manager (xmonad) and a virt-manager guest in fullscreen mode. When not in fullscreen mode, hovering the mouse over the menu bar will allow mod4 + num to switch workspaces. When in fullscreen mode, however, mod4 is sent directly to the guest, the host OS never reacts to the command. In addition, even if control + alt is pressed, followed by mod4 + num, the command is still sent to the guest VM.

This makes it essentially impossible to use virt-manager to control a guest VM while inside of xmonad.
