Thanks for your hint. I tried all quirks one by one but to no avail. In particular, 0x01 did not help at all so I think the comment can be removed from the source code ;-) I think I'll be going for a low-power Mini-ITX system using the existing DD card. An alternative would be two dual input USB devices attached to my current vdr dedicated system (which is a Raspi 4B running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS by the way) but I do not have encouraging experience using USB devices from the past - except if someone can point me to a known working device.
