The Kernel maintainers removed it on purpose and in my opinion this was correct.
So asking the maintainers is useless at all.

So VDR would already have needed to be changed quite some time ago.
I guess it is time to do it now.
BTW: I always thought that Linux kernel policy is not to allow userspace applications to break. Apparently this is no longer the case :-(.
