AFAICS these things are still based on PES packet handling, which
will soon be dropped completely from remux.c.
It may well be that parts of these patches will go into the new
frame detecting code, but I'll only be able to tell that once
I get there.
The plan is that VDR will look into the data stream only as far as necessary
to detect "standalone" frames (i.e. "I-frames") that can be used to do
fast forward/rewind etc. Apart from that the TS data stream will be saved
exactly as it comes in.

Are there any estimations on recorded file sizes in PES and TS formats?
Is it going to take more space for the same recorded time?
