I have a bunch of luxi*.ttf in the truetype font directory, one
of them is "Luxi Sans".

I find fonts.conf hard to understand. As far as I see, Luxi Sans
is linked correctly (it's default fonts.conf installed by
fontconfig):

<!--
  Sans-serif faces
 -->
	<alias>
		<family>Bitstream Vera Sans</family>
		<family>Helvetica</family>
		<family>Arial</family>
		<family>Verdana</family>
		<family>Albany AMT</family>
		<family>Nimbus Sans L</family>
		<family>Luxi Sans</family>
		<family>Kochi Gothic</family>
		<family>AR PL KaitiM GB</family>
		<family>AR PL KaitiM Big5</family>
		<family>ï¼ï¼³ ã?´ã?·ã??ã?¯</family>
		<family>Baekmuk Dotum</family>
		<family>SimSun</family>
		<family>FreeSans</family>
		<default><family>sans-serif</family></default>
	</alias>

Regards.
