vdr newbie question: VIDEODIR=/video?

Did you install this package from source? A newer version (1.1.0) is 
available in Fedora Extras, the package is named dvb-apps.

There are rpms of vdr and several plugins available at rpm.livna.org. 
For instructions on how to set up this repository to use it with yum 
please have a look at http://rpm.livna.org/configuration.html

After installing the package you can just start vdr with "service vdr 
start" (as root and without the quotes, of course). The video directory 
used in this package is /srv/vdr, it will be setup with the correct 
permissions automatically.
