Hi, just recognized that post (a little late I guess...). I was also irritated by this behaviour first, but am happy with the delayed physical deletion of the recordings. So some time ago, I've done a small patch against vdr-1.3.12 to take into account the *.del files in the directory structure while calculating the free space, instead of "forcing an update" by deleting them. Since then, I usually spend more time with my girlfriend or watching TV, so I've probably missed the latest VDR developments. But if you like, you might want to try applying the patch to the current VDR version. Good luck!
