For me the mp3-plugin also works fine with the cvs version of the 
softdevice.
I'm also continuing the development of softplay, the media player for 
the softdevice. The current cvs version now has basic support for 
playlists, so it finally makes sense to use softplay for mp3 playback.
So you might want to give it a try ;-)
I'm currently looking for good ideas to implement a user interfaces for 
the playlist. So any comments are welcome ...
