 Benno is right, see construct_dirlist_from_argv(), the dir list is
 terminated by arbitrary option, it checks for '-'.

 The expected use-case is "<dirlist> <search-restriction> <pattern>",
 for example:

    whereis -M /usr/share/man/man1 -m ls
