Hi. I have a custom Linux distro running where we (unfortunately...) support telnet, using netkit-telnet-0.17. A while ago, I upgraded util-linux from 2.20.1 to 2.22-rc2 (to get sulogin, since I switched to systemd). One side-effect of this, which I didn't catch for some time (not frequently using telnet), was that telnet started chopping some characters off its output. The changes appear to be related to login(1). ======================================================== [13:35:17][hgb@prentice:~]12 telnet hgbsaturn Trying 10.47.37.161... Connected to hgbsaturn. Escape character is '^]'. Linux 3.0.38-199 (hgbsaturn.rd.tandberg.com) (1) gbsaturn login: ast login: Fri Aug 31 11:35:27 from prentice.rd.tandberg.com hgbsaturn:~] $ elnet.pcap hgbsaturn:~] $ ogout Connection closed by foreign host. ======================================================== (The hostname was supposed to be 'hgbsaturn'.) The tcpdump capture of the session is attached. Has anyone seen anything like this? I tried to look at the changes in login between the two versions, but they were too many. We did use PAM before too, btw.
