the out-of-source build seems to be broken by the following commit:

libblkid: add BLKID_{VERSION,DATE} to blkid.h
It dies with the following message:
../../util-linux-ng/disk-utils/mkswap.c:66:20: error: blkid.h: No such file or
directory
After reverting the change, it works just fine:
$ git revert 033cf439e382afba06b06552cba67dd42405c660
