Usually 0.  Perhaps, if we were able to survey all machines,
we'd find the answer is always 0: I've not heard of it being
used, and normally nowadays the disk would be handling it;
but it is allowed for in the header structure, and respected
by the kernel.

I disagree: that changes the behaviour of a standard utility
in an unexpected way.
