Yes, once for each new option. I considered mentioning once
in a separate para that 'newinstance' and 'ptmxmode' depend
on the config token. But its more likely to be missed and
lead to frustration if ptmxmode is specified but silently
ignored.

... this para ? i.e  reference to ptmx node in each instance ?

It is similar but this talks about the 'ptmx' node while the
paragraph under 'newinstance' talks about 'pty indices'.
