The patch titled loop: add ioctl to resize a loop device has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is loop-add-ioctl-to-resize-a-loop-device.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/SubmitChecklist when testing your code *** See http://userweb.kernel.org/~akpm/stuff/added-to-mm.txt to find out what to do about this The current -mm tree may be found at http://userweb.kernel.org/~akpm/mmotm/ ------------------------------------------------------ Subject: loop: add ioctl to resize a loop device From: J. R. Okajima <hooanon05@xxxxxxxxxxx> Add the ability to 'resize' the loop device on the fly. One practical application is a loop file with XFS filesystem, already mounted: You can easily enlarge the file (append some bytes) and then call ioctl(fd, LOOP_SET_CAPACITY, new); The loop driver will learn about the new size and you can use xfs_growfs later on, which will allow you to use full capacity of the loop file without the need to unmount.
