There are some other widely used interfaces also removed, including gethostbyname(), vfork(), and usleep(). I have to admit to having largely ignored POSIX for several years, even though I'm still formally on the committee and occasionally throw in a hand grenade.

The intent seems to be to unburden minimal implementations, but a "real Unix" can hardly do without these for a very long time.
