Why root partition is not in /etc/mtab

Hi all,

My /etc/fstab is like this:

LABEL=PARDUS_HOME    /home            ext3      noatime              0 0
LABEL=PARDUS_ROOT    /                ext3      noatime              0 0
/.swap               none             swap      sw                   0 0
none                 /dev/shm         tmpfs     nodev,nosuid,noexec  0 0
none                 /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc binfmt_misc defaults
0 0

And my /etc/mtab is like this

usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw 0 0
/dev/sda1 /home ext3 rw,noatime 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev 0 0
none /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc binfmt_misc rw 0 0

I wonder why root partition /dev/sda2 is not there, which seems to work with
util-linux.

Regards,
ismail
