Moonset Pit Green Waste Disposal Site Temporarily Closing Due to Full Capacity / Alternative Site Offered

Williams, Ariz., May 11, 2020—For Immediate Release. The Kaibab National Forest will be temporarily closing the green waste disposal site at the Moonset Pit due to the pit being at maximum capacity for woody debris. An alternative site has been designated in the interim until fire crews can safely burn the existing debris allowing the pit to reopen.

The alternative green waste disposal site is located at the old dump site off forest road 900 north of Pittman Valley. The hours of operation will be the same as the pre-scheduled times for the Moonset Pit.

Just north of Pittman Valley off the 74 road, the alternate location will be staffed and open between the hours of 08:00am and 2:00pm on the following dates. Users will only be allowed to access and discard natural materials and woody debris on these dates while staff is present.

Sunday, May 24.
Saturday, June 6, Saturday, June 20.
Saturday, July 11, Saturday, July 25.
Saturday, August 8, Saturday, August 22.
Saturday, September 5.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these services in order to make their private property more defensible against the threat of wildland fire. No garbage, household trash, building materials, lumber or other items will be allowed. Materials should not be bagged.

Please be aware of logging operations in the vicinity and drive safely when entering and leaving the area.

Cinder harvesting operations will not be affected by the partial closing of Moonset Pit. Personal mineral material permits are available by calling the Williams Ranger District office at 742 S Clover road during regular business hours Monday through Friday. Moonset pit will remain open to all users who possess a valid permit for collection with no time or date restrictions.
