Visit forest heritage site, learn about ancient Arizonians
SEDONA, Ariz., March 14, 2019, For Immediate Release —
The Red Rock Ranger District has planned demonstrations and displays to show how Native Americans and settlers lived in the southwest starting Monday (March 18) to celebrate Archeology and
Heritage Awareness Month.
Visitors will have opportunities to learn about Native American ancient life throughout the month of March. Volunteers will set up important tools in front of the V Bar V Heritage
Site visitor center showing them and techniques used by native people for thousands of years. By holding these special events, it is hoped visitors will gain respect and knowledge needed to protect the fragile and special archaeological resources of this
area.
There are three events planned at the V Bar V Heritage Site, which is open Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from
9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. No pets are allowed on the site. Bring walking shoes, hat, sunscreen and water.
Prehistoric tools demonstrations

Activities: Learn from Bob Ern as he shows how tools of the past, like the Atlatl, were used to provide food and to protect themselves.
Spinning and weaving techniques
When:
March 23
Where: V Bar V Heritage Site 6750 N. Forest Ranger Rd Rimrock,
AZ 86335
Activities: Presentations by Susan Wilcox demonstrates spinning and weaving techniques from prehistoric times.
Living history camp in the meadow
When:
March 23 & 24.
Where: V Bar V Heritage Site 6750 N. Forest Ranger Rd Rimrock, AZ 86335
Activities: See the Powderhorn Clan and the Miserables Mountain Man living in a historic camp set up in the V Bar V meadow. Demonstrations will show
how natural materials were used in the southwest.
Red Rock Pass or equivalent entrance fee required for each vehicle. Passes are sold from a vending machine in the parking lot.
To find the V Bar V Heritage Site from I-17, take exit 298 (state Route 179) and turn southwest for 2.5 miles; go past the Beaver Creek Work Center
and Beaver Creek Day Use Site, over the bridge and turn right into the V Bar V Heritage Site driveway.
