Fire behavior increases on Cat Fire
Fredonia, Ariz., Sept. 13, 2018 — For Immediate Release. With the recent escalation in windy conditions and
warmer temperatures, Cat Fire activity has increased over the last 72 hours. Fire managers anticipate a portion of the fire to reach Forest Road 610 within the next 48 hours, and currently, plans are being discussed to re-implement area closures in anticipation
of continued warmer-dryer weather conditions over the next week. Cat Fire Overview Date reported: August 6, 2018 Fuel: Mixed conifer Weather:
Hot and dry conditions are forecasted to continue across the Kaibab Plateau. Size: 3,500 acres Strategy: The current strategy continues to contain and suppress this wildfire when and where firefighters
have the high probability to successfully do so. Situational update: Warmer and dryer conditions on the North Kaibab Ranger District continued within the past
72 hours. Closures: Fire management resources are planning to close Forest Roads 219, FR 610, Marble Viewpoint, Saddle
Mountain Trail, North Canyon Trail, South Canyon Trail and Pt. Imperial and Nankoweap Trails, which are both located on Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park land, and approximately 5 miles of the Arizona Trail. Patrols are currently placing
closure signage and roving these areas to alert campers and hikers of this closure. An official closure order, including a map of the restricted area, will be posted on the Kaibab National Forest website under Alerts & Warnings once it is signed. The closure
