Wrangell Ranger District seeks public input on cabins for long-term, management strategy

WRANGELL, Alaska, May 22, 2018 – The Wrangell Ranger District is hosting a public meeting at the James & Elsie Nolan Center on May 31, 2018, in order to include community input into the development of a Long-Term, Sustainable Cabin Management Strategy.

The Tongass National Forest is developing the Long-Term, Sustainable Cabin Management Strategy in order to be responsive to developing trends and challenges, while ensuring the Forest continues to provide for a high-quality cabin experience through an array of opportunities. This effort was inspired by increasing maintenance costs, decreasing budgets and significant changes in usage trends. Public input is vital to this process, in order to ensure future projects and management align with the experience cabin users are looking for.

The meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nolan Center classroom (296 Campbell Drive). Those unable to attend may join the Tongass National Forest Cabin Users Group on Facebook to submit comments or send an email to paulrobbins@xxxxxxxxx.

For more information, contact Corree Delabrue at the Wrangell Ranger District, 907-874-2323.

For interviews and information to be used for publication, contact the Tongass Public Affairs Officer at 907-228-6201.
