FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., May 8, 2018, For Immediate Release – Forward
progression of the Facility Fire, located approximately 3 miles west/northwest of Flagstaff, has been stopped at 6 acres and continues to be suppressed. The wildfire is human-caused and under investigation.
Elden Tower lookout reported seeing smoke at approximately 1:30 p.m. today just west of Flagstaff and resources responded immediately. Coconino National Forest is currently under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, which prohibits the following:
1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove fire;
2. Using an explosive;
3. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building;
4. Operating a chainsaw or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine, is prohibited from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.;
5. Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame;
6. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun; except while engaged in a lawful hunt pursuant to state, federal, or tribal laws and regulations;
7. Possessing or using a motor vehicle off National Forest System roads, except when parking in an area devoid of vegetation within 10 feet of the roadway; and except
for parking overnight in Forest Service developed campgrounds and trailheads.
