Chapel of the Holy Dove made safe by burning
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., March 6, 2018, For Immediate Release —
Coconino National Forest firefighters and Summit Fire Department have responded to the Kendrick fire southeast of Kendrick Park in grasslands burning 335-acres of forest
land before the forward progress was stopped this afternoon. Approximately 30 firefighters worked in the grasslands to stop the progress of this wildfire. Chapel of the
Holy Dove is in the area of the wildfire. Firefighting crews ensured its safety by using fire to burn the fuels between the spreading wildfire and the Chapel. The backburning successfully kept damaging heat and flames away from the Chapel. Several Forest Service engines, patrols and a water tender truck from Summit Fire responded to a smoke
report from a drone on fire north of Flagstaff at approximately 12:35. The fire began near Forest Road 514 & FR 524 intersection by a drone which caught fire upon landing. The fire was reported as 50-acres in size upon the firefighter’s arrival. Drivers in the area are asked to drive cautiously while near the area because of smoke, response vehicles
and personnel in the area. The fire is producing a smoke which may be limiting visibility in the area at times. Arizona Department
of Transportation is operating a pilot vehicle to shuttle drivers through the area as needed. Notifications of fires are provided regularly by news releases and by the following online resources:
