Flagstaff Sees Smoke from Goodwin Fire near Mayer, Ariz.

Flagstaff, Ariz., June 27, 2017, For Immediate Release — Smoke from the Goodwin Fire on the Prescott National Forest is moving through Flagstaff and other northern Arizona areas.

The Goodwin Fire grew to 20,644 acres today. It responded to critical weather and fuel conditions yesterday, and despite exemplary work on the ground continues to burn and expand.

The smoke from the fire is being pushed by southwest Red Flag condition winds, furthering the difficulty in suppressing this fire.

For the safety of residents evacuations and pre-evacuations have been ordered. 

Evacuations have been ordered for:

· all of Mayer,

· the area west of Highway 69, from Mayer to Poland Junction,

· Poland Junction, Chaparral Hills and Breezy Pines subdivision,

· parts of Dewey,

· the evacuation remains in place for Pine Flat as well.

Shelter is up at Bradshaw Mountain High School, 6000 E. Long Look Drive in Prescott Valley, Ariz.

Pre-evacuations have been ordered for: 

· Orme School,

· Dewey-Humboldt, Blue Hills,

· Walker,

· Potato Patch,

· Mt. Union and Mountain Pine Acres.

(928) 442-5103, from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Or call Goodwin Fire Information at (928) 925-1111.

Fire closure are areas on State Highway 69, which is closed from I-17 to Hwy 169. A Closure Order on the Prescott National Forest is in effect to provide for the safety of firefighters and the public.
