Good morning. Here is the daily update for Saturday, June 24, 2017. The Boundary Fire has reached 80% containment. Smoke from the Boundary Fire is impacting Timberline/Doney Park, Flagstaff, Baderville/Fort Valley, Bellemont, Parks and
Williams, with smoke reaching as far south as Verde Valley and Cottonwood. We are receiving reports of high, hazy smoke in the Prescott area as well, and are trying to find out where the smoke is originating. Smokey impacts for Sunday and Monday should improve
based on the limited information currently available. The map and air quality report should be available shortly. Thank you, Carrie Templin SWA IMT5 Public Information Officer Media & Public Information Contact: Email:

Containment increases, Flagstaff gets a break from heavy smoke
Williams,
Ariz., June
24, 2017—For
Immediate
Release. After heavy smoke in Flagstaff on Friday, the area got a reprieve early today. The air this morning was cleaner than expected in the most-populated areas of the region.
While Flagstaff got a Saturday reprieve, areas south of the fire in Williams and elsewhere near Interstate 40 were hard-hit with smoke. The region as a whole will continue to be affected over the next few days by smoke from
the Boundary Fire. Some areas, including Cameron and Tuba City, may be affected by smoke from the Brian Head Fire, which is burning in southern Utah. The immediate effects from Brian Head are expected to be limited to haze, however. For more information on
smoke and air quality, visit www.azdeq.gov
Firefighters had another productive day on Friday, bringing the containment to 80%. The containment success was coupled with an increase in the amount of acreage burned. The newly burned areas are within the control lines.
No structures or critical resources are threatened. Crews today will continue work in the southwestern portion of the planned fire perimeter, using fire to clear fuels to limit the spread of the wildfire.
Firefighters continue to work toward incident objectives, which include keeping firefighters and the public safe; protecting private property and minimizing impacts to natural and cultural resources.
Preparations are underway to implement a suppression repair plan for the Boundary Fire. The plan calls for improving areas affected by the fire suppression activities and protecting the fire area from erosion.
