The following is a news release from the team on the Highline Fire which began the afternoon of June 10 on the Tonto National Forest below Mogollon Rim, northwest of Payson. The fire moved above the Rim over the weekend and is now burning on the Coconino National Forest. As such, you will receive these news releases from the Type I Team which is actively trying to suppress the fire and will provide updates on its status.

Fuels: Grass, Brush, Heavy, Dead and Down, Ponderosa Pine and mixed conifer
Tonight at 6:00 p.m., Bea Day’s Type 1 Southwest Area Incident Management Team (IMT) assumed command of the Highline Fire. The Incident Command Post will be located at the Houston Mesa Campground. Firefighters are actively working around the clock to fully suppress the Highline Fire. Current resources include hand crews, engines, water tenders, dozers, and helicopters. Air tankers have also been used and will continue to
be used to assist with suppression efforts.
The forecast is for another windy day tomorrow.
Hot, dry weather is expected to continue in the near future. Fuel moisture remains critically low. Smoke is expected to continue to be visible.
A Coconino National Forest Closure Order will be going into effect in the near future.
The estimated closure area runs from the boundary between the Coconino and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, west along Forest Road 300 to Forest Road 95 to the north, Forest Road 96 to the east and along Forest Road
137B to the forest boundary. This area includes Knoll Lake, portions of the Cabin Loop Trail System, and General Crook Trail. For more details visit the

No evacuation orders are in effect at this time. A Precautionary Pre-Evacuation Notification is in effect for residents in the Bonita Creek Canyon. It is important for residents in
these areas to be prepared as conditions can change rapidly.
Wildfires are a No Drone Zone. If you fly, we can’t. Every time a drone is spotted anywhere within the Temporary
Flight Restriction (TFR) area, all aircraft must land until we can be sure the drone is clear of this area. Visit the
