Sunflower and Ike fire update:

Williams, Ariz., August 10, 2016—For Immediate Release. The Sunflower fire on the Williams Ranger District of Kaibab National Forest has rekindled with an increase in activity over the past few days as a drying trend allowed for active spread. The Ike fire has been called out after receiving significant moisture prior to the recent change in weather.

The Sunflower Fire was approaching a designated management action point yesterday, prompting crews to initiate some precautionary hand ignitions in order to protect the values at risk including a powerline and securing a road. Fire behavior was ideal with low to moderate intensity which permitted crews to accomplish the objectives without any holding concerns. Smoke was visible during the operation but dispersed quickly by late afternoon.
