Saturday, July 30, 2016 Fire: Fuller Fire Completion: 47% Acres: 14,493 Start Date: June 29, 2016 Cause: Lightning Location: Point Imperial, N. Rim Grand Canyon NP Total Personnel: 237 Fuels/Topography: Timber, grass, rugged terrain The lightning-caused Fuller Fire continues to burn at a low intensity towards the west, producing minimal smoke. Meteorologists predict increased moisture
and rain over the weekend, which will likely slow the spread of fire. Firefighters are conducting minor ignition operations on the west flank to reintroduce fire into an area that has not received a natural ignition in 200 years. The objective for these ignitions
is to bring low intensity fire along the ground at a gradual rate of 200 to 300 feet per day. The extended absence of wildfire increases the risk of catastrophic fire in this area, which could have negative impact on vegetation, soil, wildlife, and other natural
resources. The Fuller Fire reduces the likelihood of catastrophic wildfire in the future by restoring the natural fire cycle and improving forest health. Smoke: West-southwest winds are expected today, 5 to 10 mph with possible 20 to 30 mph outflow winds associated
with monsoonal storm events. For more information on smoke and your health visit: http://wildlandfire.az.gov/links.asp#Smoke Open: Highway 67; North Rim Visitor Center, Lodge and Campground; Fuller Canyon Road; Point Imperial and
