Red Flag Warning in effect today for Kaibab National Forest
Williams, Ariz., July 10, 2016—For Immediate Release. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. that covers the Kaibab
National Forest, as well as most of northern Arizona, due to strong winds and low relative humidity.
Visitors to the Kaibab National Forest are advised to refrain from having a campfire when Red Flag Warning conditions exist. This advisory covers all campfires across the districts, including in developed campgrounds.
The North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest remains in campfire and smoking restrictions, also known as Stage I fire restrictions. While these fire restrictions prohibit many instances of campfires
on the forest already, the Red Flag Warning issued for today expands those prohibitions to include campfires in developed campgrounds.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or are imminent and that a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity can contribute to extreme fire behavior. The campfire
advisory remains in effect until the Red Flag Warning ends.
