Media Contact: Bob Blasi Bert Fire slows, objectives accomplished Williams, Ariz., June 23, 2016—For Immediate Release. The Bert Fire on the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest has decreased in activity over the last few days and is expected to continue to decline as the fire
reaches pre-defined action perimeters. BERT FIRE OVERVIEW Start Date: May 28, 2016. Cause: Lightning. Location: Ten miles southeast of Valle on highway 180 near Ebert Mountain. Current Size: Approximately 5983 acres. Incident Commander: Tyler Knight ICT3 / Zach Boness ICT3T. Resources: One 11-person fuels crew, one type-6 engine, and one resource advisor. Total personnel assigned is 18. Current Status: Active fire behavior has noticeably diminished after an abundance of available fuels have consumed over the last several days. Crews have effectively allowed fire to move across the landscape using techniques that
were designed to successfully achieve management objectives. Much of the fire perimeter has now reached the identified boundaries previously set forth and managers are very pleased with the results.
Smoke: Smoke production has reduced dramatically and will now begin to ease impacts that earlier effected residential areas adjacent to the fire area. Some smoke may remain visible for several days but is expected to be minimal.
