The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center seeking local applicants to fill summer positions KETCHIKAN, Alaska–The Tongass National Forest's Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is seeking qualified local
candidates for several seasonal visitor information assistant positions. The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980 (ANILCA) is a local hiring program. Under the ANILCA hiring authority, only local candidates with knowledge and understanding
of Southeast Alaska will be considered. “Looking for a rewarding summer job helping Ketchikan visitors understand Southeast Alaska's diverse natural
and cultural resources?” said Visitor Center Director Leslie Swada. “Look no further than the Tongass National Forest's Southeast Alaska Discovery Center. Working from our landmark downtown visitor center, seasonal rangers will collect admission fees, present
informative interpretive programs on a variety of Southeast Alaska topics, answer visitor questions, operate audiovisual equipment, and help keep the center ship-shape.” The regular work schedule will be from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday to Friday from May through late September.
Other special events may also need coverage. GS-4 employees will earn $15.15 per hour. Training will be provided, but experience in handling money and working with visitors is preferred. Please contact Leslie Swada at
