Morning closure for Cathedral Rock Trailhead parking improvements
Sedona, Ariz., April 11, 2016, For Immediate Release —
The Red Rock Ranger District has announced that the Cathedral Rock Trailhead Parking Area will be closed for visitors safety on the morning of April 19 so that
vault toilet can be installed.
The vault toilet arrives on a semi-truck pre-built and weighing more than two tons. These facilities require a large crane and other equipment to raise, move and lower
the structure in place.
The restroom donated by the City of Sedona are a much needed and welcomed improvement for visitors.
“We couldn’t be more excited to finally have a bathroom at one of the most popular recreation areas on the Forest,” said Nicole Branton, Red Rock District Ranger, “and
can’t express enough appreciation to the City of Sedona for providing it.”
The work is expected to take most of the morning with full services resuming during the afternoon hours. The Coconino National Forest is asking trail users to please
access the area from the Yavapai Vista pullout on Highway 179, or use another trail.
“The closure is necessary for public safety, and we hope the public will come back as soon as big machinery is clear,” said Branton.
Future plans include an additional parking area being built by the City of Sedona next year on land donated by a neighbor. More than 138,000 people visited Cathedral
Rock in 2015.
