Williams, Ariz., Aug. 7, 2015—For Immediate Release. SPRINGS FIRE OVERVIEW Yesterday: Fire personnel were successful in directing fire spread in the northeastern portion of the Springs Fire back into the old Mud and Cross Fire burn scars, west of Forest Road 147, on the south side of Summit Mountain. Fire
managers also observed fire behavior to the south, along Forest Road 57, where containment lines are in place, protecting private lands.
Today: Fire personnel will conduct patrols along County Road 73/Perkinsville Road, or the “South Road,” in order to monitor and hold the fire to the west side of the road, as well as continuing to protect private lands and archaeological
sites. Today’s preparations also include reinforcing Forest Road 57A and Rocky Ridge Road, which are designated perimeter roads.
Smoke: Smoke impacts will likely begin to lighten along the Interstate 40 corridor today, due to monsoon weather conditions and fire movement into areas that have experienced fire in recent years, thus limiting intensity, effects
and general smoke output. Smoke impacts in both Wild Horse and Sycamore Canyons will continue as the fire continues to move to the south towards Pine Flat.
Closures: The Summit Mountain Trail (#68) continues to be closed until Sept. 30, or until Closure Order 07-15-01-F is rescinded. The trail was closed on July 30 due to the direct impact of the Springs Fire.
Size: 5,383 acres Start Date: July 2, 2015 Location: 9 miles southeast of Williams, near the intersection of County Road 73/Perkinsville Road, or the “South Road,” and Forest Road 354, near Davenport Knoll and Summit Mountain.
