Locust Fire update: June 25, 2015
6:30 pm Fredonia, Ariz., June 25, 2015 –
The Locust Fire on the North Kaibab Ranger District is now at 1,088 acres with approximately 113 personnel on the incident. The lightning-caused fire was determined to be appropriate to manage for protection and resource
management objectives and is located in the Kaibab Plateau just 3 miles east of the Rainbow Rim. The fire continues to be managed for multiple resource objectives. These objectives include returning fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem, reducing accumulated fuels on the forest floor; recycling of nutrients
into the soil; enhancing wildlife habitat and protecting the area from future high-intensity wildland fires. The weather forecast continues to show hot and dry conditions with a 10-percent chance of precipitation for tonight through Friday and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. Smoke continues
to be slightly visible from Kanab, Utah, Fredonia, Arizona, Arizona Highway 67 and Highway 89A, Rainbow Rim, and some interior Forest Service roads. No road closures are in effect. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution when in the area. Get fire activity updates and maps 24 hours-a-day:
