North Zone Fire Managers Plan For Pile Burn Near Stina Point

FREDONIA, Ariz. – North Zone fire managers are making preparations to implement pile burning  as early as Monday on the North Kaibab Ranger District, depending on weather and fuel moisture conditions.  The piles consist primarily of small diameter tree trunks, small branches, twigs and needles.  The goal of the pile burning is to remove fuels within the forest in order to lessen the potential intensities of future wildland fire events.

Specifically, fire crews plan to burn approximately 325 acres of existing piles near the intersection of Forest Service Road (FSR) 271 and FSR 206B, which is located near Stina Point.

All prescribed burning on the Kaibab National Forest is subject to approval by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and appropriate weather conditions.  For additional information on the Smoke Management Division of the ADEQ and to view prescribed burns authorized for any given day, visit http://www.azdeq.gov/environ/air/smoke/index.html.

For additional information regarding the North Kaibab Ranger District pile burns, contact the North Zone Fuels Specialist, Dave Robinson, at (928) 643-8138.
