Lemon Creek summit name proposal comment period extended
JUNEAU, Alaska–The Forest Service extended the comment period for naming a Lemon Creek summit located near Thunder Mountain because of the overwhelming
public response. The U.S. Board of Geographic Names has received two proposals to name the same summit. The commemorative name proposed is Mount Scribner. Jonathon W. Scribner, (1942-2005) was a Juneau resident and regional director of the Alaska Department
of Transportation and Public Facilities Southeast from 1983 to 1997. The historic Native Alaskan name proposed is Tlaxsatanjín, meaning Idle Hands or Hands at Rest. This traditional name has been used by Tlingit
people for 450 years The Forest Service is accepting public comments on the two proposed names and forwarding the information to the U.S. Board of Geographic Names for their
