Comments requested for Lemon Creek geographic name proposal JUNEAU, Alaska–The U.S. Board of Geographic Names, which has authority to name geographic features for federal use, has received two proposals to name
the same geographic feature in the Lemon Creek Area with the following names. The area to be named is a summit located near Thunder Mountain. The commemorative name proposed is Mount Scribner. Jonathon W. Scribner (1942-2005) was a Juneau resident and regional director of the Alaska Department
of Transportation and Public Facilities Southeast from 1983 to 1997. The historic Native Alaskan name proposed is Tlaxsatanjín, meaning Idle Hands or Hands at Rest. This traditional name has been used by Tlingit
people for 450 years. The name, Tlaxsatanjín, is documented in the publication “Our Grandparents’ Names on the Land” by Thomas Thornton.
The Forest Service is accepting public comments on the two proposed names and forwarding the information to the U.S. Board of Geographic Names for their
