Chugach National Forest Implements Fire Ban

Due to high fire danger and in partnership with Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kenai Peninsula State Parks on the Kenai, the Chugach National Forest is implementing a fire ban for Kenai Peninsula lands in both developed recreation sites — campgrounds, cabins, trails — and dispersed sites in the backcountry. The ban covers all open fires, including those in enclosed fire grates and rings and charcoal grills. Cooking stoves and gas grills may still be used. Smoking is also included in the fire ban.* Remember that possessing, discharging or using any kind of fireworks or pyrotechnic device on Forest Service land is always prohibited.

The ban includes these popular campgrounds and picnic sites (note this list is not inclusive-ALL Chugach National Forest lands on the Kenai, as shown in the attached map are included in the ban):

Bertha Creek               Black Bear                  Cooper Creek              Crescent Creek

Coeur d’ Alene           Granite Creek              Porcupine                    Primrose

Ptarmigan Creek         Quartz Creek               Russian River              Tenderfoot Creek

Trail River                   Williwaw                     Alder Fishing Pond     K’Beq Day Use Area

Quartz Creek Beach    Tern Lake Day Use     Moose Flats Day Use

Trail River Day Use                                        Turnagain Pass Day Use-East and West

National forest lands are very dry and conditions are ripe for human caused wildfires. Please follow fire restrictions so everyone can have a safe and memorable experience on their national forest.

*Smoking except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed campground, or other recreation site, or while stopped in an area in at least three feet in diameter, which is barren or cleared of all flammable material is prohibited by the fire ban.

See attached map for closure area
