Forest Service Begins Road Maintenance on Tusayan Ranger District

TUSAYAN, Ariz. – The Forest Service has begun maintenance work on roads on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest.  The contract road work, which will include reconditioning of some popular routes, is expected to be complete by the end of June.

Crews are making improvements to Forest Road 688 from State Highway 64 to its intersection with Forest Road 305A.  Also scheduled for reconditioning blade work is Forest Road 320 between its intersections with roads 305 and 311.

Following the reconditioning work, crews will haul material for spreading onto the roads from Dillman Pit, which is located on Forest Road 318.  Heavy truck traffic is expected during material hauling.

Visitors to the Tusayan Ranger District should expect to encounter large trucks and other heavy equipment while traveling on these routes.  Extra caution is encouraged in these areas.

For additional information, contact the Tusayan Ranger District office at (928) 638-2443.
