Williams, AZ – With the return of favorable conditions forecasted, fire managers on the Williams, Tusayan, and North Kaibab Ranger Districts are planning multiple prescribed fires for the week of November 11, 2013. All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including winds and ventilation, and approval from the ADEQ www.azdeq.gov. Williams Ranger District: Tentative plans starting Wednesday November 13, 2013 for 539 acres in the Cougar Park area of the McCracken project. This area is located 6 miles south of Williams between FS road 108, 122, and CR 73 ‘South’ Rd. Daytime smoke is expected to disperse to the northeast with overnight smoke dispersing south including the Sycamore Canyon area. Minimal overnight impacts are anticipated for Williams and surrounding communities.
Tusayan Ranger District: Tentative plans starting Tuesday November 12, 2013 for 567 acres in the Scott project area located 10 miles northeast of Tusayan, AZ. There is potential for some smoke impact to the Desert View and Village areas of the Grand Canyon National Park as well as the town of Tusayan. An additional 80 acres are planned in the Flying J project area directly adjacent to the town of Tusayan. Overnight smoke will likely settle in the Long Jim Canyon area as well as Coconino Wash.
North Kaibab Ranger District: Tentative plans starting Wednesday November 13, 2013 for 250-1500 acres in the Oquer project area centrally located on the district. All smoke is anticipated to remain over undeveloped areas of the district.
