Forest Service offers revised Juneau trails guide
JUNEAU, Alaska—The U.S. Forest Service Alaska Region has completed a revised Juneau Trails Guide that features a comprehensive inventory of recreation trails in the Juneau area. The map includes all designated trails, including those maintained by the State of Alaska and the City and Borough of Juneau as well as the extensive network the Forest Service manages.
The full-sized map offers several features: · Moderate bathymetry, or the topography of underwater floor surfaces, which offers users a sense of water depth beyond the shoreline and throughout inland waterways; · Land status, which gives a general representation of federal, state, city, and private land ownership; · Recreation trails legends; · Waterproofing, making the maps useable in any weather; · At 36 inches wide and 52 inches high, a large size for increased detail; · Availability in folded and flat versions for packing or wall-hanging. Recreationists can purchase maps for $10 at the Juneau Ranger District office on the Back Loop or at the map vending machine located in the lobby of the federal building downtown. Flat (unfolded) maps are available by appointment on the 5th floor of the federal building by calling 586-7997 or 586-8860. The purchaser will need photo identification for security screening if visiting the 5th floor. -30-
