Kaibab National Forest Lightning Fires

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Fire crews continue to respond to fires that started from lightning across the Forest Monday. Personnel are working on fires near Kendrick, south and north of Williams, and north of Red Butte on the Tusayan Ranger District.  All fires are being managed under a full suppression strategy.

Crews are reporting no problems in containing the fires. Around ten fires at less than one acre each resulted from Monday’s storm. The fires are generally single trees burning with minimal creeping and smoldering ground fire.

The forest is quite damp in places after receiving up to one inch of rain. The forecast shows a drying trend through the rest of the week. It is possible that new fires may continue to surface and crews will respond accordingly.
